Twenty Democrat governors announced the formation of a “bipartisan,” “moral” alliance Tuesday to work together to expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions throughout the U.S.
Although the Reproductive Freedom Alliance is being promoted as “non-partisan” and focused on all reproductive issues, the truth is only Democrat governors have joined it (and not even all of them) and the real focus is on abortion.
The Associated Press reports California Gov. Gavin Newsom spearheaded the effort to connect pro-abortion governors in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling Dobbs v. Jackson. The historic ruling overturned Roe v. Wade and began allowing Americans to pass laws that protect unborn babies from abortion again. Currently, 14 states strictly limit or ban abortions, and more are working to do so.
Meanwhile, many Democrat-led states are doing the opposite, dumping tens of millions of dollars and other resources into pushing for more abortions.
Through the new Reproductive Freedom Alliance, pro-abortion governors and their staff plan to share effective strategies to promote and expand abortions, including legislation and executive orders, ways to get more taxpayer funding for abortions, and plans of action if a federal court case leads to the banning of abortion drugs, according to the report.
Newsom portrayed aborting unborn babies as a moral matter. In a statement about the alliance, he said government leaders have “a moral obligation to what is right.” But killing unborn babies in abortions is morally wrong, and the governors will be working to make sure even more babies are being killed every year, instead of working to reduce abortion rates by providing real support for mothers and babies in need.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s statement about the alliance seemed more appropriate. She vowed that the governors will “fight like hell” to keep abortion on demand legal and easily accessible.
Interestingly, Newsom also bragged about the alliance being “a coalition of bi-partisan governors,” even though all of its members are Democrats.
The alliance includes the governors of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawai’i, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington and Wisconsin.
Funding for the pro-abortion project is coming from the California Wellness Foundation and the Rosenberg Foundation, according to a press release.
“The Alliance will work together to strengthen reproductive freedom in the face of an unprecedented assault on abortion access and other forms of reproductive health care by states hostile to abortion rights and judges who are advancing their ideological agenda,” the governors said in a joint statement.
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in a historic victory for life and returned the power to legislate abortion to the people. Because of Dobbs v. Jackson, states may protect unborn babies from abortion for the first time in nearly 50 years. Research estimates state pro-life laws saved as many as 10,000 unborn babies’ lives in just the first three months.
All pro-life laws allow abortions when the mother’s life is at risk and, in some states, cases of rape and incest. These make up a very small percent of all abortions in the U.S. Research from the Charlotte Lozier Institute found about 96 percent of abortions are for purely elective reasons.
Meanwhile, new polls show growing public support for legal protections for unborn babies. A Marist College poll found 69 percent of Americans support limiting or banning abortions, up from 62 percent in June. Another new poll from UMass Amherst found a 5-percent drop in those who say Congress should pass a law to make abortions legal nation-wide and a 6-percent increase in support for a national abortion ban, WCVB News reports.
