A small group of abortion activists tried to disrupt March for Life events last week in Washington, D.C. by chanting “Thank God for abortion” as pro-life advocates marched to support unborn babies’ right to life.

The March for Life always is a peaceful, family-friendly event that draws hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers to Washington, D.C. every January to mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and call for restored protections for babies in the womb.

In recent years, however, small groups of abortion activists have shown up to disrupt the event, and the same occurred this year.

According to the Catholic News Agency, just a few abortion activists came out to counter-protest Friday, and their disruptions were minimal. Local police told the news agency that they did not make any arrests.

One incident occurred as pro-lifers gathered for a moment of silence outside the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in the city. A pro-abortion man used a megaphone to interrupt the silent protest with chants of “Thank God for abortion,” and a pro-abortion woman chanted “Keep your religion off my vagina,” according to the report.

At another pre-march event organized by Priests for Life, a few abortion activists interrupted a prayer service, shouting “Abortion is forever, protect trans lives” and “My body, my choice,” the report continues.

Pro-life advocates also saw a small group of abortion activists at the end of the March for Life outside the U.S. Supreme Court building, near where the Silent No More Awareness campaign often gathers to share testimonies of post-abortion healing.

According to CNA: “… some protesters used megaphones to amplify siren sounds in an apparent attempt to disrupt conversations and speeches. One woman who held a sign that said ‘America is not a Christian nation’ shouted profanities at pro-life activists before chanting ‘thank God for abortion.’”

News2Share editor Ford Fischer also noticed that police escorted a pro-abortion man away from the March for Life rally after he began shouting pro-abortion slogans through megaphones and, at one point, got into a man’s face with it.

This year marked the 50th year since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Roe and forced states to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions. In June, however, the high court reversed its infamous ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson case and began allowing states to protect unborn babies again.

Research by National Right to Life puts the number of unborn babies lost to abortion under Roe at 64,443,118.

Because the abortion issue is in the hands of voters again, the March for Life changed its route this year. Previously, attendees marched to the U.S. Supreme Court building; but this year, they ended at the U.S. Capitol, sending the message that federal leaders should restore protections to babies in the womb.
