Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez urged the Biden administration to undermine the whole U.S. judicial system after a federal judge issued a ruling Friday that blocks the dangerous abortion drug mifepristone.
“I believe that the Biden administration should ignore this ruling,” the New York Democrat told CNN.
Ocasio-Cortez made the excuse that “deeply partisan” judges are engaging “in unprecedented and dramatic erosion of the legitimacy of the courts,” Townhall reports.
On Friday, U.S District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk agreed with Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine doctors that the Food and Drug Administration violated federal laws and ignored safety risks when it approved and later expanded use of the abortion drug mifepristone under the Biden administration. His decision Friday blocks the FDA’s approval of mifepristone, the main abortion drug used to kill unborn babies up to about 10 weeks of pregnancy.
The Biden administration is appealing, but in the mean time, several Democrats including Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC, have suggested ignoring the ruling – and continuing to do so if the courts do not rule in abortion activists’ favor.

“It is up to the Biden administration to enforce, to choose whether or not to enforce a ruling,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN in response to the decision Friday.
If the case makes its way to the U.S. Supreme Court, which appears likely after another federal judge issued a competing ruling Friday that basically ends all safety regulations for the abortion drug, Ocasio-Cortez said the Biden administration should undermine the whole system of American government, USA Today reports.
“Should the Supreme Court [rule in the doctors’ favor], it would essentially institute a national abortion ban,” she said. “My hope would be that we do not get to that point. But once, if we do, I do believe that we must start to push back on our system of checks and balances, which is designed to push back should there be an example of judicial tyranny and judicial overreach.”
Here’s more from Townhall:
CNN host Anderson Cooper questioned the Democrat, asking if we should live in a country where a government can ignore a federal court ruling. AOC defended her comments saying the judge’s ruling was a “power grab.”
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) made similar remarks, arguing that the Biden Administration can override Kacsmaryk’s ruling for the abortion pill.
“There is no way this decision has a basis in law,” Wyden said in a statement. “It is instead rooted in conservatives’ dangerous and undemocratic takeover of our country’s institutions. No matter what happens in seven days, I believe the Food and Drug Administration has the authority to ignore this ruling, which is why I’m again calling on President Biden and the FDA to do just that.”
However, even some pro-abortion leaders cautioned Democrats about setting such a precedent, including Jessica Waters, professor of reproductive rights law at American University. Waters told USA Today that doing so would mean a pro-life president also could ignore court orders if elected.
First approved under the Clinton administration, mifepristone is used to abort unborn babies up to about 10 weeks of pregnancy – although some abortionists use it later. It works by blocking the hormone progesterone and basically starving the unborn baby to death. Typically, abortion groups also prescribe a second drug, misoprostol, to induce labor and expel the baby’s body.
Studies indicate the risks of the abortion drug are more common than what abortion activists often claim, with as many as one in 17 women requiring hospital treatment.
Along with millions of unborn babies’ deaths, the FDA has linked mifepristone to at least 28 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications. However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.
A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.
Another new study from the University of Toronto, “Short-Term Adverse Outcomes After Mifepristone–Misoprostol Versus Procedural Induced Abortion,” published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that one in ten women who took the abortion pill had to go to the emergency room, according to Pregnancy Help News.
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the pro-abortion movement has been pushing abortion drugs even more heavily, and some groups send the drugs to women in pro-life states illegally.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been trying to expand the life-destroying drugs even further, first by allowing mifepristone to be sold through the mail without any direct medical supervision, and, more recently, by allowing pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS and RiteAid to sell them.
In California, public colleges and universities also now are required to provide abortion drugs for free on campus, and other Democrat-run states are considering similar mandates.
