Catholic Archbishop Dennis Schnurr of Cincinnati said he was not consulted and would not have given permission for pro-abortion President Joe Biden to appear at a Catholic university this week.

The news of Biden’s plans to host an invite-only town hall Wednesday at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati is drawing criticism from Catholics and pro-life advocates.

Though Biden professes to be a devout Catholic, he openly defies church teachings about the sanctity of human life. After just 100 days in office, he surpassed President Barack Obama as the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history.

Schnurr issued a statement Tuesday emphasizing his disapproval of the university’s decision, WCPO News 9 reports.

“Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr has not been contacted by any involved party about the upcoming visit of President Joseph R. Biden to Cincinnati to participate in a CNN town hall meeting at Mount St. Joseph University,” the statement reads. “Archbishop Schnurr has therefore not been asked for, nor would he have granted, his approval for any such event to occur on Catholic premises.”

The archdiocese said the university is affiliated with the Catholic Church but it operates independently, so Schnurr has no control over the matter.

Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati and other pro-life organizations in Ohio have been urging people to call the university and urge it to cancel the event.

“President Biden carries responsibility for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of unborn lives,” Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati said in an email to supporters. “What compassion and charity is shown to the unborn when the university hosts a president who claims to be a Catholic, yet has the most pro-abortion administration in the history of our country?”

Mount St. Joseph describes itself as Catholic. According to its website, “The Catholic identity of the university is rooted in our mission, in the gospel values of service, compassion and charity, and in the legacy and vision of our founders, the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.”

The university said in a statement that it is “humbled and honored” to host the president and CNN host Don Lemon.

Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati is encouraging people to call Mount Saint Joseph University at 513-244-4200 and “tell them this is unacceptable for a Catholic university and they should be ashamed to host a man responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent unborn lives.”
