Struggling pregnant mothers in California who want their unborn babies may not know where to turn for support.
But if they want to abort their unborn baby – or feel like they have no other options, California leaders are doing pretty much everything possible to make sure they get an abortion.
On Tuesday, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the creation of a new abortion hotline, a partnership between the state government and pro-abortion groups to provide information and free legal help for those seeking and providing abortions, the Associated Press reports.
“They aren’t alone. We’re here. We have support, we have resources. We have guidance, we have counsel for you,” Bonta said at a news conference.
But for struggling pregnant and parenting mothers who want their children, Bonta offered nothing. The hotline is specifically for abortions.
According to the AP, state leaders worked with the Southern California Legal Alliance for Reproductive Justice to create the resource to provide abortion information to pregnant mothers and legal advice to abortion workers who may be in trouble for killing unborn babies in violation of other states’ laws.
Bonta said the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year created a “confusing, and frankly, scary” legal landscape, and the hotline will provide pro bono legal services for anyone who is charged with providing or assisting in an abortion.

Here’s more from the report:
In addition, legal experts will offer guidance about compliance amid shifting restrictions in various states, advice about protecting sensitive health data and support for amicus briefs to advance reproductive rights. …
The state and the legal alliance will get support from groups including Planned Parenthood, Access Reproductive Justice, the National Women’s Law Center and the University of California, Los Angeles, Law Center on Reproductive Health, Law, and Policy.
The national Abortion Defense Network also is involved in the project.
California Democrat leaders have been working aggressively to make sure unborn babies continue to be killed in elective, unnecessary abortions, while offering little to nothing to help mothers choose life for their babies. Some lawmakers even want to cut off access to pregnancy and parenting aid for mothers in need through pregnancy resource centers.
Gov. Gavin Newsom, a pro-abortion Democrat, has been working directly with the billion-dollar abortion industry through a new coalition that he created to openly encourage women to abort their unborn babies.
Last summer, Newsom signed a budget with $200 million dedicated specifically to expanding abortions, including a new, government-run website that tells women from other states how to come to California to abort their unborn babies.
It also includes $40 million to pay to abort unborn babies whose mothers do not already qualify for a Medicaid-funded abortion or have insurance coverage, and $15 million to help pro-abortion groups advertise and promote abortions.
Then, in April, his administration bought 2 million doses of misoprostol, an ulcer drug used off label to abort unborn babies, to distribute as an abortion drug in case the courts block access to the abortion drug mifepristone.
Newsom also bought billboards in pro-life states welcoming women to come to California to abort their unborn babies.
California has very few limits on abortion, and it forces taxpayers to pay for them. A new law that went into effect in January forces all public colleges and universities to provide abortions on campus – even though California has the highest number of abortion facilities in the country: 168, according to an ANSIRH study.
Under another new law, nurses and other medical workers who are applying for licenses in the state may have their applications expedited if they agree to do abortions. California also began offering financial incentives to medical students to become abortionists this year.
California aborted approximately 154,000 unborn babies in 2020, according to the Guttmacher Institute; but many expect those numbers will grow as a result of Democrats’ efforts.
