The Canadian Minister of Families, Children and Social Development welcomed Americans to come across the border to abort their unborn babies if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.

Speaking Tuesday about a leaked draft Supreme Court ruling on abortion, Canadian government Minister Karina Gould said women “certainly” may come to her country for abortions, The Hill reports.

“If they, people, come here and need access, certainly, you know, that’s a service that would be provided,” Gould told the CBC News Network.

Abortions are legal for any reason up to birth in Canada, and most are taxpayer-funded through the country’s government-run health care system.

Gould’s office said Americans who come across the border for abortions would have to pay for them themselves or through their private insurance, according to the report.

Speaking to the Canadian House of Commons on Tuesday, Gould described the killing of unborn babies in abortions as a “fundamental right.”

“Abortion is a fundamental right,” she said, CBS News reports. “…it has been a priority for our government to support the reproductive rights of women and girls around the world. We will continue to do so with greater determination than ever.”

Gould also said she is worried that some Canadian women may find it harder to get abortions if Roe is overturned, because some cross the border into America for abortions right now.

“One of the concerning factors here is that there are many Canadian women who maybe don’t live near a major city in Canada, but will often access these services in the United States,” she said. “I’m very concerned about the leak yesterday. I’m very concerned about what this means, particularly for American women, but also for Canadian women.”

Earlier this week, Politico exposed a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court that overturns Roe and allows states to protect unborn babies from abortion again. The court has not issued its final ruling yet, but many believe the justices will overturn the 1973 abortion case.

Most Americans want stronger legal protections for unborn babies than what Roe v. Wade allows. This is reflected in poll after poll after poll after poll.

The Roe ruling forces states to legalize abortions without limits up to viability and allows abortions up to birth. As a result, more than 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe, legal” abortions.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, as many as 26 states would ban abortions, saving hundreds of thousands of unborn babies’ lives.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the Mississippi abortion case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health soon.
