September brought momentous joy for a Catholic diocese in Spain when 14 children were baptized after being saved from abortion.

Aleteia reports pro-lifers with the John Paul II Rescuers Association were involved in helping all 14 mothers and babies.

The association celebrated with Bishop Juan Antonio Reig Pla of the diocese of Alcalá de Henares when the children were baptized on Sept. 25, according to the report.

“It could have been many more, but the pandemic is still with us,” pro-life advocate Marta Velarde said on the association’s blog.

The pro-life Catholic association provides encouragement and support to pregnant mothers in difficult circumstances. They offer hope and assistance so women know that they do not have to abort their unborn babies.

One of the women, Ana, had her daughter baptized after pro-lifers helped her decide not to have a late-term abortion.

“She had decided to abort her fifth daughter when she was five-months pregnant, but she also changed her mind thanks to the support she received from the Rescuers,” Velarde said. “However, the many problems of everyday life were hard for her to handle, and it was several years before she decided to baptize her daughter.”

Another one of the 14 children, a baby girl, was conceived during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and her mother faced a lot of pressure to have an abortion, Velarde said. But when she called the association by mistake one day, the woman found the support that she so desperately needed.

“After hours of conversation, she decided to meet a member of the association in person,” Velarde said. “When they started to talk in person, she began to cry, recognizing how much the thought of abortion took away her peace. On the night of her little girl’s baptism, she kept reaffirming how happy she was that she had chosen life.”

A third child who was baptized in September, Pablo Santiago, was named after the man who helped to save his life, she said.

Pablo’s mother, Mariana, met the man, a member of the association, just 10 minutes before she was scheduled to have an abortion, Velarde said.

“After a conversation with him, she decided not to go ahead with the procedure,” she said.

For Mariana, the pro-lifers were her and her unborn baby’s only support. Velarde said Mariana’s partner abandoned her, and her sister refused to help her. She was unemployed as well, and her pregnancy was a difficult one; yet, she chose life, Velarde said.

All across the world, pro-life advocates provide compassion and support to pregnant mothers in need. They encourage and walk alongside families through difficulties and help mothers and fathers recognize that their unborn babies are valuable human beings who deserve to live.
