More than 100 pro-life Catholics gathered to celebrate Mass and pray for unborn babies Saturday outside the largest abortion facility in Colorado.

The Catholic News Agency reports the sidewalks outside the Planned Parenthood in Denver are the site of a new 40 Days for Life 365 initiative, in which pro-lifers dedicate every day of the year to prayer and peaceful vigils for the unborn. Typically, 40 Days for Life prayer vigils are held for 40 days every spring and fall outside abortion facilities across the world.

During the special service, Brad Maddock with Denver Prays for Life emphasized the power of prayer to save babies from abortion, according to the report.

“God has shown us through tens of thousands of saved babies (miracles) that prayer is our most powerful weapon against this evil,” he said.

Even while many were praying, pro-lifers at the event said a woman chose not to go through with her abortion appointment but instead drove to a nearby pro-life women’s clinic called Marisol, the report states.

As part of the kickoff event, another woman shared how she had aborted her unborn baby but later found forgiveness and healing in Christ through the ministry Rachel’s Vineyard, according to the report.

Pro-life advocates hope that their daily presence outside the Planned Parenthood in Denver will help mothers and fathers avoid the pain and grief of abortion and save unborn babies’ lives.

Catherine Worachek, a student at Our Lady of Victory High School, said she believes abortion is the “fight of our lives.”

“The fight of our lives is the fight for the millions of unborn children that deserve their lives,” Worachek said. “Our heroes aren’t gearing up for a single fight that will culminate in a decisive victory or defeat. Instead, we are pushing for a consistent, daily effort.”

Maddock said many Americans have become numb to the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

“If 15 elementary children were murdered today our community and news media would be outraged. Instead, we have become numb to this killing,” he said.

Pro-lifers hope their daily witness will awaken America to the violent injustice of abortion and help bring about restored protections for unborn babies.

Since 40 Days for Life began in 2007, pro-lifers have helped save more than 17,000 babies from abortions, more than 100 abortion facilities close and more than 200 abortion workers quit. Each campaign is community-based and compassion-focused. The ministry is non-denominational, and Christians in more than 1,000 cities in 63 countries have participated in the past decade.
