A pro-life member of Congress has introduced new legislation that would require the CDC to count aborted babies among the Americans who died of all causes in a given year.
Today, U.S. Congressman Madison Cawthorn (NC-11) introduced the “Seeking Official Uncounted Lives Statistics Act” or the “SOULS Act”.
This legislation requires the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to include, to the extent possible, aborted children in death numbers and rates. Under the current standard, the CDC does not list abortion as a cause of death. Theoretically, according to CDC metrics, this preventable cause of death would rank in the top 5 causes of death if they were calculated.
“An unborn child is a human life, no matter what stage of pregnancy the mother is in. Simply ignoring this massacre of Americans is not only wrong, it’s discriminatory. Life begins at conception and the recognition of that life ought to begin at conception as well. The current system of ignoring infanticide can no longer be tolerated. I am proud to introduce this common-sense piece of legislation which will reveal the devastating amount of lives lost to abortion in our nation.” said Congressman Madison Cawthorn.
According to current estimates, about 900,000 babies are killed in aboritons on an annual basis.
And figures from the National Right to Life Committee show that almost 63.5 million babies have been killed in abortion since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in Roe v. Wade in 1973.

Randall O’Bannon, Ph.D., is the director of education and research for the pro-life group, provides further analysis of the chart and the horrifying figures.
Although abortion totals per year have gone down since their highs just after Roe, almost 900,000 babies are killed in abortions every year and those totals have increased slightly in the last two years because of the COVID pandemic and massive uncertainty in the world, according to NRLC’s projections.
