A group of U.S. Senate Democrats asked President Joe Biden on Tuesday to “immediately” issue an executive order to expand and promote the killing of unborn babies in abortions through the federal government.
The letter, which NBC News first reported about, urges the president to create taxpayer-funded vouchers for abortion-related expenses and a new health department position solely dedicated to promoting abortion.
U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, of Massachusetts, and Patty Murray, of Washington, led the effort, joined by more than 20 other Democrat senators.
They expressed alarm that the U.S. Supreme Court soon may overturn Roe v. Wade and allow states to protect unborn babies from abortion again. Estimates vary, but researchers predict up to 26 states would ban abortions without Roe.

“Americans across the nation and at every level of government must stand up against this unprecedented assault on women and their right to make decisions about their own bodies and lives,” the lawmakers wrote. “But as President of the United States, you have the unique power to marshal the resources of the entire federal government to respond.”
They outlined six actions that they want Biden to take “immediately,” including increasing access to abortion drugs and using tax dollars to actively promote abortions.
Other ideas include providing taxpayer-funded vouchers and other resources for women who travel across state lines for abortions, and creating a new “reproductive health ombudsman” in the Department of Health and Human Services to “educate” the public and analyze data about abortion.
They also want Biden to order federal agencies to research ways to use “federal property and resources” for abortions. Other recommendations include moving military service members to states where abortions will remain legal post-Roe and giving all federal employees paid time off and travel/lodging reimbursements for abortions.
Warren and Murray described the killing of unborn babies in abortions as a “fundamental” right and urged Biden to take swift action because of the impending Supreme Court ruling, which is expected later this month.
“Americans across the country are at risk of losing their fundamental rights, including their constitutional right to abortion protected for generations,” they wrote. “They deserve no less than a whole-of-government response.”
Biden already has taken numerous actions to expand abortions during his first 1 ½ years in office. Perhaps the worst thus far, he began allowing dangerous abortion drugs to be sold through the mail without any direct medical supervision — putting both mothers’ and unborn babies’ lives at risk.
In May, Biden issued a statement claiming abortion is a “fundamental” right after news broke about a leaked Supreme Court draft showing the majority overturning Roe,
“I believe that a woman’s right to choose is fundamental, Roe has been the law of the land for almost fifty years, and basic fairness and the stability of our law demand that it not be overturned,” he said.
Since then, he and Vice President Kamala Harris have honored abortionists and abortion activists at the White House and held meetings to discuss ways to expand abortions if the Supreme Court allows states to ban them.
The Biden administration’s pro-abortion goals do not represent most Americans’ beliefs. Polls consistently show that most Americans support strong legal protections for unborn babies – more than what Roe allows. LifeNews highlighted 11 recent polls here. A new Rasmussen poll shows more Americans want Roe v. Wade overturned (48 percent) than want the ruling to remain in place (45 percent).
Since Roe v. Wade, about 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe, legal” abortions. The 1973 ruling forces states to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions up to viability and allows states to legalize abortions up to birth.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the Mississippi abortion case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health sometime this summer, likely the end of June.
