Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchison announced today that he’s running for the Republican nomination for president. Hutchison is a pro-life former governor who signed multiple pieces of pro-life legislation to protect babies from abortion while leading the Southern state.
Hutchinson announced Sunday during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” that he will run to replace pro-abortion radical Joe Biden.
“I’m going to run for president of the United States,” Hutchinson told Jonathan Karl. He said the “formal announcement” of the campaign would come in Bentonville, Arkansas, “later in April.”

Hutchinson also said President Donald Trump should “step aside” from the 2024 GOP presidential primaries because of his indictment.
“It is a distraction,”the former governor said.
“When a public official is indicted, I think with regard to the office, the office is more important than the person and they should step aside. That standard should apply here. It is a distraction,” Hutchinson said on the network.
“It is not a good day for America, but the system has to play out here and we have to have confidence that it can,” he continued.
That said, the former congressman said he would not have brought the case against Trump.
“This is a case that I would not have brought based on the facts that I understand. It doesn’t make sense to me,” he said. “[The charges] better be very substantive if he wants to make his case in a way that does not seem simply political.”
“I’ve traveled the country for six months, I hear people talk about the leadership of our country. I’m convinced that people want leaders that appeal to the best of America, and not simply appeal to our worst instincts,” he said.
In 2021, Hutchison signed a bill to ban abortions and Arkansas is one of just over a dozen states to protect babies from abortions.
