More than 400 pro-life Catholics from Denver, Colorado gathered to pray for unborn babies to be spared from abortion Oct. 2 outside a Planned Parenthood abortion facility.

The Catholic News Agency reports the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver organized the pro-life Eucharistic procession in coordination with 40 Days for Life, a pro-life prayer campaign.

The pro-lifers walked around the Planned Parenthood in Stapleton three times and ended the event at Marisol Health, a pro-life medical clinic across the street, the report states. The Stapleton abortion facility is the largest in the state.

Gianna Smith, a sophomore at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Classical School in Denver, was one of the many young people in the crowd, according to the report.

“My mom taught me at a very young age how terrible abortion is, so I want to be a part of the movement of it being illegal and unthinkable,” Smith said. “I know God especially listens to young people praying, and with such an important issue as abortion is, I don’t even mind giving up a Saturday.”

Susie Cheshire, a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul, said she felt encouraged to see so many people of different ages attending.

“As a participant I was able to experience a gentle peace as we processed in shared prayer and adoration,” she told CNA. “It was so nice to be surrounded by all ages — from newborn babies, pregnant mothers, elderly, and all ages in between — as we gathered in prayer, lifting our voices for the voiceless.”

Lynn Grandon, director of the Respect Life Office at the diocese, said they reminded people to pray not only for unborn babies and mothers but also for abortion workers’ hearts to be changed.

The 40 Days for Life campaign brings together Christians from all different denominations to pray and peacefully witness for unborn babies outside abortion facilities across the world. The fall campaign runs from Sept. 22 to Oct. 31. Already, participants have witnessed 201 babies being saved from abortion this fall.

Since the pro-life outreach began in 2007, 40 Days for Life participants have helped save 19,322 babies from abortion and 222 abortion workers quit their jobs. They also have witnessed 114 abortion facilities close.  Along with prayer and fasting, participants engage in community outreach by organizing baby showers, diaper drives and other efforts to support families in need.
