Kamala Harris called an Indiana abortionist who may have violated patient privacy law this month to thank her for aborting unborn babies.
CBS News reported about the call between Harris and Caitlin Bernard, an abortionist who has received national attention after she reportedly aborted the baby of a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio after its heartbeat law went into effect.
Bernard told CBS News that she received the call from the vice president while she was at work on July 19, and Harris thanked her for her abortion work.
“She really just thanked me. She thanked me for speaking out, for bringing this issue up,” she said Tuesday. “She talked about how important it is to hear the voices of physicians, and again, what has been made into a political situation but is actually about health care and how important it is for physicians to be advocates for their patients.”
A White House official confirmed their conversation in a statement to the news outlet, saying Harris praised the Indiana abortionist for her “courage, professionalism, and dedication to her patients.”
CBS claimed Bernard was “pushed into the spotlight” because of the story, but it was Bernard herself who shared the incident with the local news.

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita told the Indy Star that Bernard, who is affiliated with Indiana University, may have violated HIPAA, a medical patient privacy law. CBS News also hinted at this, writing, “Bernard is the doctor who provided the abortion to the 10-year-old on June 30, according to Indiana records, though she cannot confirm that due to privacy laws.”
Bernard brought up the girl’s tragic story to defend abortion in an interview earlier this summer. She told an Indianapolis news outlet that the young girl had to travel to Indiana for the abortion because most abortions are illegal in Ohio.
Republican Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said the girl would have been allowed to have an abortion in the state.
Notably, in 2018, Bernard and eight other abortionists were accused of failing to properly report dozens of cases of suspected child sexual abuse to authorities involving victims as young as 12.
A 27-year-old illegal alien was arrested and charged with felony rape earlier this month in connection to the 10-year-old Ohio girl, according to authorities.
