Democrat vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris touted herself as a science believer Wednesday despite her refusal to acknowledge that an abortion involves two human lives, not just one.

In her debate with pro-life Vice President Mike Pence, Harris attempted to portray President Donald Trump’s administration as anti-science.

“Joe [Biden] believes in science,” Harris said. “When I first got to the Senate, on the committee that’s responsible for the environment, did you know this administration took the word ‘science’ off the website? And then took the words ‘climate change’ off the website? We have seen a pattern in this administration which is that they don’t believe in science.”

But Harris’s position on abortion suggests she is the ignorant one when it comes to basic science. She supports abortion on demand and recently opposed legislation to ban late-term abortions and protect newborns who survive abortions from infanticide.

On Wednesday, she emphasized her support for abortion by promising to “fight” for a woman’s “right” to “her own body.”

“I will always fight for a woman’s right to make a decision over her own body. It should be her decision, not that of Donald Trump or Mike Pence,” Harris said.

An abortion always involves two bodies, two human lives. It is a basic scientific fact. A unique, irreplaceable human life comes into being at the moment of conception, and the purpose of an abortion is to destroy that human being’s life in the womb.

Numerous textbooks and medical experts say that human life begins at conception – the moment when the sperm fertilizes the egg. A recent survey of more than 5,000 biologists in 86 countries also found a nearly unanimous consensus that human life begins at conception, with 96 percent agreeing with the statement.

Even some abortionists admit this to be true. During a 2019 debate, abortionist Willie Parker said: “It is wrong to kill an innocent human being, I agree. Abortion kills a human being, I agree.”

It also is true that most abortions stop a beating heart. An unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable by about six weeks of pregnancy, though researchers at the University of Oxford said a human being’s heartbeat actually may begin as soon as 21 days of pregnancy.

These are not matters of debate. They are basic scientific facts – facts that Harris either denies or conveniently ignores because they get in the way of her pro-abortion position. In contrast, the Trump administration knows the scientific truth and fights for the basic human rights of all human beings, born and unborn.
