Kamala Harris is facing criticism for an awkward gaff in which she appeared to call pregnancies in America a “crisis.”

Harris made the comment during an interview about abortion Sunday with podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen, according to The Blaze reports.

“Women are getting pregnant every day in America, and this is a real issue,” Harris told Cohen, according to a segment shared by RNC Research.

Hot Air blogger Ed Morrissey said Harris made it sound like becoming a mother is an emergency in and of itself.

“In trying to make a case for pushing abortion-rights legislation, Harris ends up making fertility and motherhood sound like a public health emergency,” Morrissey said.

The interview focused on abortion and the end of Roe v. Wade. Harris has been a key leader on the issue, meeting with abortion activists and traveling across the country to fundraise for pro-abortion candidates.

She told Cohen on Sunday: “We need to act with a sense of haste about what is at play, what is at stake. And codifying Roe will be an important moment in terms of putting back in place protections for the folks who are at risk” of getting pregnant.

Harris and Biden are lobbying Congress to pass legislation to “codify Roe,” meaning states would be forced to legalize the killing of unborn babies for basically any reason up to birth and taxpayers would be forced to pay for their deaths.

The bill, nicknamed the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act, passed the U.S. House last week, but it is expected to fail in the U.S. Senate.

A new national poll by OnMessage and Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America found that 70 percent of voters oppose abortion without restrictions, and 63 percent oppose legislation that would overturn nearly all state-level bans on abortion, even limits on late-terms abortion.

Even among many Democrat voters, the bill is too extreme. Polls consistently show that a strong majority of Americans oppose late-term abortions and taxpayer-funded abortions. A recent Marist poll found that just 36 percent of Americans believe abortions should be legal without any restrictions. Additionally, 73 percent oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions.
