Pro-life leader Lila Rose advocated for unborn babies’ right to life Monday in front of a hostile audience on the Dr. Phil Show, reminding them that babies in the womb “have the right to not be killed.”
Rose, the president and founder of Live Action, spoke calmly and compassionately despite repeated interruptions, accusations and contradictions from Dr. Phil and members of the audience.
When a female audience member accused pro-lifers of having “no empathy,” Rose reminded her that babies in the womb also deserve compassion.
“Abortion is devastating to women’s mental health. No one talks about that. The year after -” Rose began before the woman interrupted her, bringing up the trauma of rape.
But Rose continued: “The trauma is from the rape. The child is an innocent party there. We should not take out generational sin on a child. To say there’s generational sin and dad was an abuser so the child should be killed, that’s not fair to the child.”
Dr. Phil did not stop the woman from interrupting Rose again to claim the U.S. Supreme Court took away a “right” from women in America when the justices overturned Roe v. Wade in June.
Rose responded that every human being deserves human rights including babies before they are born.

“Laws are meant to protect the weak. Who is the weakest in our society? A child.
Whether you live 10 minutes, 10 years, or 100 years, you’re a human and have the right to not be killed.”

“Our fundamental human right that we all share in this room is life. It’s the first human right,” she said. “Laws are meant to protect the weak. Who is the weakest in our society? A child. They don’t have a voice, they can’t speak. A child -”
Although the woman interrupted again, Rose persisted in defending the rights of unborn babies, telling the audience: “Whether you live 10 minutes, 10 years, or 100 years, you’re a human and have the right to not be killed. And that’s what the pro-life fight is all about.”
Rose told Dr. Phil that an abortion is wrong because it intentionally destroys an innocent human life. She said pro-life advocates want to restore human rights to all human beings and provide real support, including health care, to struggling families.
Afterward, Rose said the show was extremely biased against pro-life advocates.
“Dr. Phil’s team chose to center the entire show around an extremely tragic case of a mother whose baby had a fetal anomaly that was life threatening,” she said. “They made the focus of the episode her story, that she was ‘forced’ to birth the baby instead of abort because of pro-life laws.”
Rose said they never acknowledged that abortion kills a baby or that the baby needs to be buried or thrown away in medical waste after he/she is aborted. She said families of dying children deserve better, and programs like perinatal hospice and palliative care provide support to the whole family before their child dies.
“Killing the baby before he or she dies naturally is never the solution. It violates the fundamental principle of medicine: to heal or provide comfort, never to harm,” she said. “The reality is abortion doesn’t solve or heal or any problem— it only kills a baby.”
