A Pennsylvania Democrat running for U.S. Senate told voters Monday that he does not support any limits on abortion.

John Fetterman, the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, is running for an open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by pro-life Republican Pat Toomey. A Democrat front-runner in the primary, Fetterman revealed just how extreme his position is on abortion Monday at the Pennsylvania Democrat Senate Debate.

If elected, Fetterman said he would “immediately” eliminate the Senate filibuster so lawmakers could “codify” abortion without limits into federal law, according to a video shared by the Republican National Committee.

“If I’m in the United States Senate, I would immediately support the first campaign to support the elimination of the filibuster to make sure that we codify women’s reproductive freedom in law,” Fetterman said.

When a debate moderator asked if he supports any limits on abortion, Fetterman replied, “I don’t believe so, no.”

He also said he believes abortions will continue in America even if they become illegal again, but they will not be safe. However, research indicates the opposite is true, that abortion bans do stop abortions and that legalizing abortion does not save women’s lives.

Fetterman’s position is extreme compared to most voters. Polls consistently show a strong majority of Americans oppose abortions without limits and support strong legal protections for unborn babies, especially after the first trimesterA January poll from Marist found only 36 percent share Fetterman’s position, wanting abortions to be legal without limits.

“Democrat candidates across the country have made it clear they are willing to embrace the most radical, fringe positions in order to appease the abortion lobby,” Andrew Brennan, RNC director of faith communications, said in a statement to LifeNews.

Brennan expressed confidence that voters will reject Democrats for their extreme pro-abortion position in November.

Most pro-abortion lawmakers claim to be fighting for women when they support abortion on demand, but polls show women are pretty evenly divided on the issue.

Notably, Pennsylvania also is one of the few states that bans sex-selection abortions, which primarily target unborn baby girls. According to the United Nations Population Fund, as many as 140 million girls are missing across the world due to the discriminatory practice.

But if Fetterman succeeds in his plan to “codify” Roe, the Pennsylvania law could be struck down, jeopardizing the lives of countless women who he claims to represent.
