Pope Francis has soundly condemned abortion for the second time this month — calling the killing of unborn babies “murder.”
The latest remarks from the head of the Catholic Church came after the tiny nation of San Marino cast a vote over the weekend to legalize killing babies as old as 12 weeks of age in abortions.
The nation, which is surrounded by Ital, voted to legalize abortions to that point and it added multiple exceptions legalizing aboritons if the mother’s life is in danger or if her physical or psychological health is at risk because of fetal anomalies or malformations. Those could easily be exploited to allow abortions up to birth.
In remarks at a bioethics event, Pope Francis decried the “throwaway” culture that makes abortion seem “normal.”
“There is the waste of children that we don’t want welcome,” he said. “It is really a murder.”
He added: “Is it right to eliminate, to take a human life to solve a problem? Is it right to hire a hitman to solve a problem? That’s what abortion is.”
The Holy Father also spoke about the elderly, who are regarded as “waste material” a bit because they are of no use… But they are roots of wisdom, which this civilization discards.

He denounced what he described as the law of “hidden” euthanasia, which shortens the life of the elderly who are provided only half the medicines, arguing they are expensive. Catholic academics, universities and hospitals, the Pope said, cannot walk the road of “waste”.
The pontiff also condemned abortion recently, saying that abortion kills babies whose lives begin at conception and must be respected.
Pope Francis said, “Abortion is more than an issue. Abortion is murder. Those who carry out abortions kill.”
The head of the Catholic Church made it clear that unborn children are human beings started at fertilization.
“The textbooks teach us that. But is it right to take it out to solve a problem? And this is why the Church is so strict on this issue because it is kind of like accepting this is accepting daily murder,” the Pope added.
“At the third week after conception, often even before the mother is aware (of being pregnant), all the organs are already (starting to develop). It is a human life. Period. And this human life has to be respected. It is very clear,” he said.
“Scientifically, it is a human life,” he added.
