A new CNN report highlights how some young women are permanently sterilizing themselves because they no longer may be able to abort their unborn babies post-Roe v. Wade.
The women interviewed in the report were between the ages of 25 and 28 and support the legalized killing of unborn babies. One, Dani Marietti, 25, even celebrated her sterilization procedure with cookies bearing pro-abortion messages: “Abortion is healthcare” and “My body my choice,” according to The Blaze.
Another, Kara Neils, 25, posted a video about her sterilization on TikTok with the hashtags “childfree” and “childfreebychoice.”
“Hi, I’m Kara and I got sterilized last week,” she said, emphasizing how the surgery was “really, really easy. Like, so much easier than I expected.”
According to CNN, the women all were “100-percent sure” they did not want children and were motivated by the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling, which overturned Roe and allowed states to protect unborn babies from abortion again.

These women’s decisions as well as reports about an increase in male sterilization procedures in the wake of Dobbs suggest many couples are irresponsible about sex and the potential result: a child. Rather than take precautions like birth control or sterilization, under Roe, they relied on abortions.
For nearly 50 years, Roe forced states to legalize abortions for any reason up to viability and allowed abortions up to birth. As a result, more than 63 million unborn babies were aborted.
Now that abortion on demand is no longer an option in about 15 states, young men and women must be more responsible for their actions.
A third woman, Mariah Marsh, told CNN that she was sterilized in January as a 28th birthday present to herself, according to the report. Marsh said she has a neuromuscular disease that can cause additional risks during pregnancy.
“I knew that the only way I could really protect myself is to go ahead and get the surgery,” Marsh said. “It does make me happy that I made the decisions that I made because it validates my thought process, which was … they’re just gonna come … for … any access to care that a woman can make on her own.”
However, her comments misunderstand the goals of the pro-life movement. Pro-lifers support health care for women and men. What pro-lifers oppose is killing human beings, and that is what abortion does.
In its historic Dobbs decision, the Supreme Court ruled that aborting an unborn baby is not a right and began allowing states to protect unborn babies’ right to life again. Currently, 15 states are enforcing pro-life laws that ban or strictly limit the killing of unborn babies in abortions, and about nine more are fighting in court to do the same.
New research suggests as many as 32,000 unborn babies were saved from abortion in the first six months after the Dobbs ruling.
