In Vietnam, pro-life advocates are helping give proper burials to hundreds of babies killed in abortions. But their activities were reported to police, who are investigating after someone reported suspicious activities to authorities last week.

As a result of the report, police in Ha Dong District found two freezers with more than 1,000 remains of aborted babies over the weekend in an apartment in Hanoi, VN Express reports. The babies appear to be stored in preparation for funerals and a service to memorialize their deaths.

Police said they are questioning four people in connection to the discovery. While police said they have environmental concerns about the storage of the aborted babies, they said it does not appear that there was any criminal activity.

Here’s more from the report:

The discovery followed a civilian tip off about a group of people seen carrying black bags in the area, Kinh te & Do thi newspaper reported. …

Initial investigations revealed the four suspects are volunteers who often collect aborted fetuses from clinics and garbage dumpsters to afford them a proper funeral in Hanoi’s Thanh Oai, Soc Son districts and Nam Dinh Province. Due to the great distance, the team had been storing the fetuses inside freezers before sending them to their final resting places.

Police said they took the aborted babies’ remains to a funeral home for proper disposition. Their investigation is on-going.

Vietnam is one of only four countries in the world that has no restrictions on abortions up to birth. China, North Korea and Canada are the other three, according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute. Some U.S. states also allow abortions without restriction up to birth, but most do not.

According to the Vietnam Ministry of Health, the country has one of the highest abortion rates in the world, with about 14 abortions for every 100 births reported in 2018.

Years ago, LifeNews highlighted the story of a Vietnamese father who established a cemetery for aborted babies after he nearly lost his wife and unborn child during a life-threatening pregnancy complication. As of 2016, Tong Phuoc Phu reportedly provided a respectful burial to approximately 10,000 aborted babies, marking each of their graves with a flower and plaque.
