Senator Tim Scott, the pro-life Republican from South Carolina, has officially launched a presidential campaign for the Republican nomination.
Scott officially announced the campaign today and will begin a $6 million ad buy that will launch next week. The senator currently has $22 million cash on hand and made an appearance in North Charleston with a rally.
“I am living proof that America is the land of opportunity, not a land of oppression,” Scott said in a North Charleston, South Carolina, campaign declaration at Charleston Southern University, his alma mater, Monday. “This isn’t just my story. It’s all of our stories.”
Scott hailed the American Dream “where obstacles became opportunities.”
“Joe Biden and the radical left are attacking every rung of the ladder that helped me climb,” he said. “And that is why I am announcing today that I am running for president of the United States of America. They’re attacking our American values; our schools; our economy; our security. But not on my watch.”
“I cannot stand by while this is done to America. She has done too much for me,” Scott added.

Scott joins a very crowded field that already includes former Presidential Donald Trump and Nikki Haley, the former UN ambassador who is the former governor from Scott’s home state. Other top potential candidates include Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and others.
“I will never back down in defense of the conservative values that make America exceptional,” Scott tweeted recently along with a video. “That’s why I’m announcing my exploratory committee for President of the United States. This fight is personal. I want every American to have the same opportunities I had.”
The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America responded to Tim Scott’s announcement of his 2024 presidential campaign in comments to LifeNews.
“Tim Scott has always spoken bravely and eloquently in defense of unborn children, with a background that imbues his pro-life convictions with particular empathy for single moms, the poor and the disadvantaged. As he officially enters the 2024 presidential race, we are encouraged by his commitment to sign the strongest achievable protections for life should he be elected president. We welcome Scott and all presidential contenders further outlining their pro-life vision and policy platform,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser.
She added: “The pro-life movement is seeking a national defender of life who will boldly advocate a minimum national standard to protect unborn children at least by 15 weeks when they can feel pain, and who will work tirelessly to build consensus and gather the votes necessary in Congress. Pro-abortion Democrats are afraid to have this debate and be exposed as true extremists for supporting abortion on demand until birth, paid for by taxpayers, with no protections whatsoever for unborn babies and their mothers – a policy that aligns more with North Korea and China than the majority of Americans. Millions of pro-life voters are watching for that clear contrast as the primary election unfolds.”
Scott has hired former Colorado GOP Sen. Cory Gardner and longtime Republican operative Rob Collins to co-chair a super PAC to support his political efforts. His Senate campaign committee has $22 million, which could be used to help him build more name identification and support him.
Growing up in North Charleston, South Carolina, Scott was raised by a single mom. He overcame poverty to become a businessman before running for elected office.
In a video announcing the exploratory committee, Scott states, “I will protect our most fundamental right, the right to life itself.”

Scott has a 100% pro-life voting record in the Senate and, last year, he delivered the Republican Address to the Nation following the speech by Joe Biden to Congress.
Biden has repeatedly claimed to be a “devout” Catholic” or a “faithful Catholic” but his radical pro-abortion record has so far been anything bu faithful to the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church.
“The President is abandoning principles he held for decades,” Scott said, noticing the contradiction between his supposed faith and his pro-abortion governing. “Now, he says your tax dollars should fund abortions. He’s laying groundwork to pack the Supreme Court.”
“This is not common ground,” he said.
Scott has challenged the notion that women, especially black women, need abortion to succeed.
“I’ll just simply say that as a guy raised by a black woman in abject poverty, I am thankful to be here as a United States senator,” he’s said.
“Did you say that ending the life of a child is good for the labor force participation rate?” Scott asked. “I’m just surprised that we find ways to weave into every facet of our lives, such an important, painful reality for so many people. To make it sound like it’s just another 0.4 percent added to our labor force participation as a result of the issue of abortion, just, to me, seems harsh.”
