A teen girl in Nebraska has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing her newborn baby to death.

According to multiple news reports 16-year-old Nebraska girl is charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony after allegedly stabbing her newborn to death.

On November 6, police were called to a home in Gordon, Nebraska after getting a report that a newborn baby was not breathing. The police report indicates the officer met the girl’s father at the door and was told “it’s too late.”

The officer found a teen girl squatting inside a bedroom and the girls’ mother was holding a newborn baby wrapped in a towel. The girl’s mother was crying hysterically crying and told the officer “she hurt him,” and said “you can see the marks.”

The officer observed that the baby’s throat had been slit or cut and the child had multiple stab wounds in his chest. The girls’ parents said they saw their daughter with a knife but the knife was missing at the time the baby was discovered.

The girl later told her mother she needed to go to a local store to get some pads because she was experiencing a heavy period flow. A few minutes later, the girl’s mother told police, she saw one of the family’s dogs go into the girl’s bedroom and she reported finding a large amount of blood on the floor and wall. She confronted the girl when she returned to the home 15 to 20 minutes later. The mother said the girl admitted having killed the baby. The woman called her husband, who located the baby, which had been disposed of in a closet.

The girl was transported to Gordon Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Regional West Medical Center by air. She reportedly underwent surgery at the hospital.

The girl has been charged in Sheridan County Court with charges of first-degree murder, a Class IA felony; and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a Class II felony, according to court records. The girl, who was arraigned on charges Thursday in Sheridan County Court, has been appointed an attorney and is being held without bond, according to court records.
