Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee proudly announced spending more than $1.2 million of his state residents’ tax dollars on abortion pills in an effort to kill more unborn babies in abortions.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday, the pro-abortion Democrat governor said he recently ordered the state Department of Corrections to buy 30,000 doses of the abortion drug mifepristone to have available in case a federal judge in Texas blocks the dangerous drug, KIRO 7 News reports.
Abortion pills are used to kill unborn babies up to about 10 weeks of pregnancy in the U.S. Studies indicate the risks to pregnant mothers are more common than what abortion activists often claim, with about one in 17 requiring hospital treatment.
But the pro-abortion movement claims abortions are “essential health care,” and Democrat leaders like Inslee whose campaigns receive huge backing from the billion-dollar abortion industry parrot these claims.
“This Texas lawsuit is a clear and present danger to patients and providers all across the country. Washington will not sit by idly and risk the devastating consequences of inaction,” Inslee said in a statement Tuesday.

The governor said he spent $1.28 million tax dollars on the abortion drugs, and they arrived on March 31, according to KOMO News. The University of Washington bought an additional 10,000 abortion pills, he continued.
He said the purchase is an “insurance policy” in case a federal judge decides to block the FDA’s approval of mifepristone as an abortion drug. A new bill sponsored by state Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Des Moines, and state Rep. Jessica Bateman, D-Olympia, would allow the corrections department to distribute the abortion drugs to licensed medical clinics and abortion facilities.
According to the governor’s office, about 800 unborn babies are aborted every month in Washington state using abortion pills, or about 60 percent of abortions.
Right now, a federal judge in Texas is considering a lawsuit from doctors with the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine that says the FDA improperly approved the abortion drug and ignored evidence of safety problems. Abortion activists fear the ruling, which could be published any day, may block the sales of abortion drugs nationwide.
First approved under the Clinton administration, mifepristone is used to abort unborn babies up to about 10 weeks of pregnancy – although some abortionists use it later. It works by blocking the hormone progesterone and basically starving the unborn baby to death. Typically, abortion groups also prescribe a second drug, misoprostol, to induce labor and expel the baby’s body.
Now, the drug is used for more than half of all abortions in the U.S. every year, killing hundreds of thousands of unborn babies, according to the Guttmacher Institute.
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the pro-abortion movement has been pushing abortion drugs even more heavily, and some groups send the drugs to women in pro-life states illegally.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been trying to expand the life-destroying drugs even further, first by allowing mifepristone to be sold through the mail without any direct medical supervision, and, more recently, by allowing pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS and RiteAid to sell them.
Along with millions of unborn babies’ deaths, the FDA has linked mifepristone to at least 28 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications. However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.
A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.
