New online abortion businesses are popping up across the United States, putting lives in jeopardy as they sell dangerous abortion drugs through the mail.

The new businesses largely are a result of President Joe Biden’s pro-abortion actions. Last year, his administration got rid of long-standing FDA safety regulations for the abortion drug mifepristone and began allowing it to be sold through the mail without a doctor’s visit.

But despite growing safety concerns, Politico reports more and more groups are selling abortion drugs online. These include Choix, Hey Jane, Aid Access, Wisp, Carbon Health and Tia, as well as primary and maternity care groups like Millie Clinic in California and Viva Eve in New York. One, Choix, even sells abortion pills to women who are not pregnant.

Most of these new abortion providers offer mail-order abortion drugs in just a few states — primarily New York and California, which already have the highest number of abortion facilities in the country.

Typically, a woman contacts the abortion group through a website or phone call, fills out a few forms, sometimes chats with a doctor or nurse, pays the bill and then receives abortion pills in the mail a few days later.

To abortion activists, the new online abortion businesses are revolutionary.

“Post-Roe America demands that we reimagine where and how abortion care is delivered,” Carolyn Witte, the co-founder and CEO of Tia, told Politico. “We must shift from a siloed approach where abortion is treated as a separate issue to a whole women’s health care model.”

Ushma Upadhyay, director of research of the University of California Global Health Institute’s Center of Expertise in Women’s Health, Gender and Empowerment, told the news outlet that the new “telehealth” companies are making abortions a more mainstream part of health care.

“The more we can normalize abortion care and spread it across more providers, we are spreading the risk around and normalizing this health service,” Upadhyay said.

But most OB-GYNs do not abort unborn babies, and tens of thousands of doctors say killing unborn babies in abortions is not health care. Many doctors and researchers also warn that these mail-order abortion practices are putting both unborn babies and vulnerable women at risk.

The abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol typically are prescribed together to abort unborn babies in the first trimester. The Biden administration began allowing the abortion drugs to be sold through the mail last year without ever seeing a doctor in person. In England, which began allowing mail-order abortion drugs around the same time, new investigations show a huge increase in ambulance calls and reports of coercion and abuse.

Abortion drugs are dangerous and can be deadly for the mother as well as her unborn baby. In the United States, the FDA has linked the abortion drug mifepristone to at least 26 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications between 2000 and 2018. However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.

The risks of the abortion drugs are more common than what abortion activists often claim, with as many as one in 17 women requiring hospital treatment. A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.

In August, a GB News investigation found a 64-percent increase in emergency calls for abortion pill complications since England began allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail.

And because pregnant mothers do not see a doctor first, some are much further in their pregnancies than they realize. As a result, there have been reports in England of late-term babies being aborted or born alive.

Earlier this year, MP Carla Lockhart told Parliament about a leaked urgent NHS email from a regional chief midwife who warned of the “escalating risk” of viable, late-term babies being born alive at home due to the mail-order abortion drugs. She said there were 12 cases where the babies showed “signs of life.”

Concerns about pregnant mothers being coerced or forced into aborting their unborn babies also are growing. Women and girls frequently are pressured or forced into aborting their unborn babies by sex traffickers, abusers and even family members. A midwife with the abortion chain MSI Reproductive Health recently told the BBC that recognizing coercion is a big problem among abortion providers.

Abortion drugs are big business. Mifepristone now is used for more than half of all abortions in the United States, according to a new report from the Guttmacher Institute. In 2020, the drug was responsible for 54 percent of all unborn babies’ abortion deaths, up from 39 percent in 2017, the pro-abortion research group found.

LifeNews recently published an article highlighting eight facts that every woman should know about the abortion drugs, including a life-saving new treatment that can reverse the effects of mifepristone and potentially save the baby’s life.
